Questions to ask on Open Days

In year five it is a good idea to visit the schools that your child will be sitting an exam for. In this way they will get a taster of what the next five to seven years of their education may look like.

Don’t be apprehensive about the open day! This is an opportunity for the school to show off their facilities and achievements, so it’s more nerve racking for the school rather than you.

In preparation for the day, you could think about some questions you could ask, if you are stuck, not to worry! We have compiled a list of questions you could ask on an open day, or even in an interview:

• How much homework do you usually get in year seven?

• What is your favourite subject? Why?

• What is your least favourite subject? Why?

• How easy was the transition from primary school to secondary school? • How did your school help with this?

• Is there a swimming pool?

• Are there any trips that you go on in year seven?

• What is the best thing about [school’s name] • Approximately how many people are there in each year group?

• How happy are you at [school’s name]

There are many more types of questions you could ask, see our full guide here.
